This unit study was filled with great information written from a Biblical perspective. I LOVE to do science this way!! With this unit study I was able to read the information as is, without adding in my own lines or discussion about how amazing our Creator is!! How a science book can be written without it, still baffles me (but that’s a post for a different time). One of the quotes that struck me was “Puffer fish are definitely one of God’s most creative efforts, aren’t they? From their design to their amazing abilities, puffer fish are unique creatures that point toward a very inventive God!”
The information portion of the unit study was well-written and filled with fun, interesting facts, for example, did you know that there are 120 species of puffer fish? Or that a Puffer Fish actually fills itself with water, not air, when it’s “puffed up”? But it was so much more than that. Within the 85 pages of this unit study there were activities and lessons for every subject. My favorite one was the Bible study portion, but I loved how all of it was tied together around one common topic.
The only negative that I found while using this curriculum was that the verses used for the copy work were written in the King James Version, this is not a version we use often in our home, and while Treyton did okay copying the verse, it was a little frustrating for him. It didn’t bother me so much that they used KJV for the Bible study portion because I just changed the “eths, and thees” as I read the verses, but with the copywork, it’s more challenging as he was writing them.
While we have and use our own curriculum, we like to use an occasional unit study when I don’t have time to plan or the energy to put it all together. Using a unit study like this one that is Biblically founded, covers a wide-range of ages and offers something for all the crucial subjects is convenient and certainly worth the money.
This unit study is recommended for ages 8-13, but it was easy to adjust to my 5 year old son, and we still had plenty to do. Including copy work, hands-on activities, some math work with ordinal numbers and patterns, arts, science question and more.
